Marvelous Developing Harvest Moon 3DS, New IP

Posted by admin On June - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Marvelous is preparing a new Harvest Moon title for the Nintendo 3DS, as well as a brand new IP for “new hardware.” However, neither will be available anytime soon.

The new Harvest Moon was confirmed during an investor Q&A translated by Siliconera, along with the original title. Siliconera noted that the “new hardware” is unlikely to be the 3DS, as Nintendo’s handheld is mentioned by name several times throughout the release.

Marvelous, current suffering from financial difficulties, recently announced that they were ceasing development of new IP entirely, though that decision appears to have been reversed. In addition, Harvest Moon creator Yashiro Wada departed the company back in March, and now serves as an advisor.

E3’s WTFiest Moments
Wait, did that just happen?

By Scott Sharkey

Over the last 15 years, E3 has supplied us with joy, outrage, and surprises, but along with all that there have been tons of moments that seem to have been calculated to cause spit-takes and double-facepalms. Here are a few of our favorites.

Sony E3 2006 Historic Massive Damage Clip

It’s okay for a videogame to require the player to “strike the weak point for MASSIVE DAMAGE!” It’s quite another thing to announce this as though it’s the most exciting, novel thing ever conceived. It’s like flipping out because you just discovered rocks.

Sony E3 2006 Giant Crab Clip

I haven’t spent much time in Japan, and even less time in Japan’s past, but I think it’s a pretty safe assumption that giant crabs shouldn’t be a part of a “historically accurate” treatment of the setting.

On this episode Scott and James talk about the Big story of the week: BungieVision, and how this will probably end badly! We also talk about games that we have been playing recently, and cover James’ views on franchises on the downward slope. The show is pretty mellow, it was a bit late and we didn’t want to blow the doors off this place on the first show.

Next episode we will discuss further the hate that James has inside of himself for all things DLC as well as a possibility of a guest interview and maybe someone else sitting in on the third chair. Big things are coming, stay tuned.

This Day in History: Nintendo Takes Stake in Rare

Posted by admin On April - 22 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

On this day in 1995, Nintendo purchased a 25 percent share in British developer Rare Ltd, beginning a relationship that would produce award-winning titles like GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark and Banjo & Kazooie.

Rare’s Donkey Kong Country, released the previous Christmas, was the fastest-selling videogame in history at that point, having pushed over 7 million units in under half a year. Nintendo’s 25 percent acquisition (which eventually grew to 49 percent) ensured that the game would see three sequels.
