TheSixthAxis: "We’ve mentioned this before, of course, but without going into specifics it’s not really worth it to put some poor developer on the line and quote them ad verbatim. Thankfully, though, Develop have done, and confirmed that the Arc will be getting a nunchuck."
CVG: A Microsoft trademark could have forced Sony to rename its PS3 motion wand.
PS Uni writes: "Sony’s full fledged answer to motion-control gaming beyond the Sixaxis will be on its way to the PlayStation 3 later this year with a healthy number of exclusive games. The system will make use of the PlayStation Eye, what we’ve previously nicknamed the ‘Wand’ and an additional wireless controller that’s similar to the Wii’s ‘nunchuck’. We can now reveal the button configuration of each controller within the ‘PlayStation Arc’ set."
EUROGAMER: So, can PlayStation 3 and its so-called "Arc" motion controller offering be put to the test in any kind of meaningful way? So far, the project has been even more carefully guarded than Natal. Less than two weeks from now, GDC kicks off and with it the first opportunity to get a good look at the wand and hopefully go hands-on with the motion controller. I expect it to be very good: after all, most of the component technologies that comprise the system are out there now for anybody to try.
With the Wiimote already firmly entrenched in the mind of the consumer as the de facto motion controller, focus has shifted to Project Natal and Sony’s motion wands. Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter has weighed in on the two newcomers, predicting that Microsoft’s Project Natal will greatly outsell Sony’s Arc controller in their first year on the market.
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Jamie MacDonald, former Vice President of Sony Worldwide Studios (the company responsible for EyeToy), gave out a few pointers to Sony and Microsoft regarding their respective motion controllers. MacDonald warned that gamers are expecting more from the 360 and PS3’s motion gaming than they do from the Wii, due to both consoles’ beefier hardware. However, he also warned about implementing "traditional long-form gameplay," lengthy sessions of which would leave players "completely knackered."
Patrick Seybold of SCEA has said that THQ CEO Brian Farrell’s mention of ‘Arc’ was just him using a "rumored code name", nothing more.
Sony registered the domain PlayStationArc.com back in October, and sources claim Arc is what the corporate giant is going with. Just tell us.
The developers of RPGs such as Arc Rise Fantasia and 7th Dragon will have a new game revealed this week.
Four unlockable characters for ARC’s fighting title BlazBlue have been listed on the Xbox Live Marketplace and are now available for download.
