SPECULATION: What We Want For Battlefield 3

Posted by admin On August - 7 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Battlefield 3, long rumored, is finally on its way. We always assumed DICE was secretly tinkering with this while making the Battlefield Bad Company series, and while there’s been off-the-cuff remarks from ex-DICE personnel, EA itself hasn’t formally acknowledged the game until last week’s announcement of the BF3 beta being bundled with the limited edition of Medal of Honor. But that’s all that’s been said about it — so we’re still pretty much in the dark as to what we’ll get with Battlefield 3.

All we know is that BF3 seems to be a multi-platform release (by virtue of being bundled with Medal of Honor), so it will not only be on PC, but also on PS3 and 360. That, and it’s likely to use the Frostbite 2.0 engine (as good as Bad Company 2 was, it was still technically Frostbite one-point-something). So it’s safe to expect even more destructible terrain, and perhaps better tools for supporting more user-mods on PC. But what else do we actually want in it? In basic terms: a delightful blend of Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 2. Basically, we want the aesthetics and destruction of BC2 with the scope and scale of BF2. At the moment, we’re going to roll with a near-future setting; even though BC2 does a pretty good job with the modern-to-future gear, we’d like those aesthetics to be brought into a deeper and more interesting game in BF3. Anyhow, here are some more of our humble suggestions to DICE.

Bungie Details Halo: Reach’s "Invasion" Multiplayer Mode

Posted by admin On April - 17 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Halo: Reach

On the latest episode of GameTrailers TV (via Joystiq), Bungie gave the first details on the new Invasion multiplayer mode in Halo: Reach, which will also be playable when the Reach beta begins in May.

As it turns out, the new mode sounds a lot like the Rush mode in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It’ll be playable on the Boneyard map in the Reach beta, which is a multi-tiered environment packed with lots of vehicles. But portions of the map will open up in three phases as the match goes on, with new weapon load outs and vehicles becoming accessible with each new opened area of the map.

Also revealed in the footage are two new weapons: the human grenade launcher and plasma launcher (as opposed to the Brute grenade launcher and Covenant plasma launcher previously usable in past Halo games). And in a last little tidbit, Bungie’s Chris Carney is also asked whether Halo 3: ODST’s Firefight mode will return in Reach. Carney hesitated to give a concrete answer, though, saying it won’t be in the beta and he’s “not sure what those guys have planned” for the full release.

Game Testers On Why Hardcore Gamers Don’t Make Good Testers

Posted by admin On April - 7 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Gaming Union writes, "Bugs, glitches and crashes in retail and downloadable games have made headlines more and more in recent months, in large part thanks to huge titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and a number of others that have been plagued with bugs. This has left many wondering where the Quality Assurance teams, better known as game testers, have been. Are they asleep at the wheel? In fact, many gamers bet they could make better testers than those employeed by the bug-ridden AAA titles. Pondering this, we sat down with third-party Quality Assurance company, The Ant Firm, and ask them if the regular gamer could really make the grade and prevent the next Modern Warfare 2 fiasco."

6 April games you probably won’t buy (but totally should)

Posted by admin On April - 4 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Ex: "After the literal deluge of high quality video games over the last several months, it’s perfectly understandable that April might be a time where gamers decide to give their wallets a little bit of a respite until summer. There’s still some big name titles coming out this month, but it’s a far cry from January and February which brought gamers a slew of top tier hits like Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain, Final Fantasy XIII and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

While it makes sense to save your money this month for the likes of Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell: Conviction or Square Enix’s NIER, there’s a number of hidden gems being released over the next several weeks as well. They might not be as heavily advertised or hyped as mainstream titles, but they have just as much potential. Most will probably end up overlooking these lesser known games in favor of April’s "big releases", but you should totally buy them anyway."
