Split/Second Review

Posted by admin On May - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

You won’t find me speaking ill about Burnout Paradise’s ever-giving wonderland of thrills, but as someone who poured hours into its predecessors’ perfectly manicured closed courses — each packed with unique sights and terrain — the switch to one large city and its surroundings left a small void in my gaming heart. Split/Second is a very different game than Burnout, emphasizing over-the-top and oftentimes implausible action scenarios over pure racing, but ultimately, it scratches the same itch as Criterion’s racing classics — and it leaves marks.

Split/Second is a game populated almost entirely by “holy shit” moments: the kind that cause you to yell at your TV (though not necessarily in anger), physically contort your body in concert with the analog stick, and leave a semi-permanent imprint on the forefront of your sofa cushion. Sure, it maintains the fundamentals of the arcade-racing genre — blistering speeds, drift-heavy super cars, and enough paint swapping to go around — but what makes Split/Second such a consistently stunning experience is the Power Play mechanic.

Fighting Traffic Tickets

Posted by Polisan On March - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

I hate speeding tickets but I love driving. While driving in general is not that exciting, driving fast is. There seems to be a problem with it called speeding tickets. Nothing can alter your driving mood like the infamous traffic ticket. That’s why I pay much attention to how to fight a speeding ticket.

I got a speeding ticket once off the Oregon Coast for going 65 in a 30mph zone. Unfair I tell you. I am not the only person who has gotten one of those “infractions” for speed limit signs that are unfairly posted; such was the case on a road trip with my friend a while back. You need some knowledge on fight speeding tickets to handle this.

Obviously this did not matter to the cop who pulled me over. I cannot even begin to tell you how annoyed I get too when they ask why they pulled you over. I think they get enjoyment out of asking that stupid little phrase. Apparently they have to ask you this to get you to confess to your “crime.” It is not a crime! If you weren’t meant to speed then why do they make cars that go faster than the average speed limit? I tell you it is a government conspiracy! They force you to learn how to get out of a speeding ticket.

You know what else I hate about speeding tickets? Contesting them; not only does it take time out of your day it is usually at the most inconvenient time like during work hours. How much sense does it make? It is like a double whammy because your $100.00 ticket has now turned into a $200.00 ticket because you missed a day of work. We gotta stick it to the man and fight speeding tickets!

Of course if you are a girl you have a better change at getting a warning then a full on ticket, well that is if you are lucky enough to get pulled over by a man cop. True story, I was driving down some road in Arizona and I got pulled over for passing on a double yellow, in front on coming traffic, which just happened to be a light green cop car, going 90 in a 35, with a Washington driver’s license, a car registered in California, and insurance in Arizona!

Now I would like to say that I got off with a warning because I was all jazzed up that day, but I would have to say for all those offenses which were pretty obvious, that I got off because he could not prove that I was speeding. I mean, he did not have radar so he could not have been able to pace me and there were no air cops either so he really did not have anything for his defense.

After reading this book I found on contesting speeding tickets, in hind sight I can say it was defiantly the lack of evidence that got me off the hook, not my smile. I have not gotten that lucky all the time but now I know I have a reliable defense when it comes to getting my tickets reduced or thrown out.

I am not likely to get that lucky again and my driving record is not exactly good, so I have to pay fortune to keep my car insured and I cannot stand driving school. When a light turns yellow, what does it mean? Good gosh it is like being in elementary school again. Besides I know the traffic laws I just have a problem when it comes to obeying them.

Obviously to avoid speeding tickets you probably should not speed, but 1. I cannot stand being behind some old man with an oxygen tank in the back of his car; and 2. Most speed limits are too slow. I got a speeding ticket in an alley once for going 10 mph. Gimmi a break! My Grandma can walk faster than that.

In short, contesting the infamous speeding ticket is easy if you know where to find the information you need to beat it.

Gran Turismo 5 Shipping with Multiple Discs?

Posted by admin On October - 20 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Gran Turismo 5

The folks over at Gran Turismo fansite GTPlanet happened upon an intriguing bit of info this morning: At least one version of Gran Turismo 5 may be shipping with up to three discs.

Kazunori Yamauchi appeared in a recent Mercedes-Benz promotional video, where an observant tipster noticed the Gran Turismo creator fiddling with the box that’s pictured above. No, that’s not a Lost DVD box set in Kazunori’s hands — it’s the packaging for Gran Turismo 5, which, curiously, features three separate blu-ray cases inside a larger sleeve.

It’s entirely possible that this is simply a premium, collector’s edition bundle with bonus videos and other added content. Then again, Gran Turismo 5 sounds like it’ll be one of the most utterly massive racing games to date — including 1,000 cars with fully-modeled cockpit views, 60 tracks, and a totally revamped physics model. Forza 3 will be shipping on multiple DVDs next week; could Polyphony Digital’s driving simulator be one of the first PlayStation 3 games to vastly exceed the storage limits of blu-ray?
