Can Halo Reach be a major improvement just like Killzone 2?

Posted by admin On December - 14 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

GB writes: "When the original Killzone was released way back in 2004 it was hyped up as the Halo killer. But things did not go too well and it’s safe to say the game flopped. A year later, when the PlayStation 3 was announced at E3 2005, Sony stunned crowds with that infamous trailer of Killzone 2. Nobody could have imagined that the PlayStation 3 could turn up with such stunning vistas. Four years later in 2009, Sony delivered with one of the best first person shooters this generation. Killzone 2 was just not an improvement in the graphics alone but it had the game play to match with it. 2009 also saw the release of Halo 3: ODST on the Xbox 360."

Dear President Obama…

DualShockers writes,

"For years on end, gamers have been plagued with the same continuous rants from religious aficionados, parents, and political deities that gaming harms the minds of our youths and promotes an egregious form of thought and violence. With the constant evolution of graphical capabilities within gaming, the attraction to experience something in a different form of entertainment tends to appeal crowds of every form; whether its children, teenagers, adults, the elderly, this consistent transformation in technology grasps the minds of all. This doesn’t only apply to gaming, of course. This applies to the movie industry, the music industry, and anything else which profits from the technological gain that distracts our consciousness. I won’t deny that too much gaming without constraints, in fact, can decay the minds of our children and so forth. But this goes for anything that we consume without moderation."

Gay Bashing on the PC

Posted by admin On July - 20 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

watch out behind you hunterA game called “Watch Behind You Hunter!” has apparently been around since 2002, but has recently caused quite the stir. While the game has been banned in France, the rest of the world seems to think it’s still ok to hunt down gays.

As the rest of the world turns a blind eye, the gay rights group “Gay Armenia” said it was, “completely disgusted with the game,” adding that it was created by “those religious-minded people in Tbilisi, Georgia who constantly cite the Bible to ‘justify’ their homophobia and hatred.” Obviously outraged by the game, Gay Armenia is dedicated to fighting against this game until it is removed.

The website’s owner, Jean Christophe Calvet, says that he holds no prejudice against the gay community. Acutally, it wasn’t the gays that he was trying to segrigate at all, it was the rednecks and hunters. Jean Christophe Calvet said, “The guy who came up with the game, Stéphane Aguie, wanted to mock hunters and rednecks, not gay men”. Looks like Mr. Aguie has done a good job at pissing off both crowds with this one.

Though this may seem like a shocking title, this is not the first time that the site has faced attacks. Back in 2001 the site creators had to face off against millions of angry Americans due to their game in which you had to protect the Twin Towers from air planes. This was just another game in a line of cheap productions, and there are sure to be more.

New King of Fighters XII New Trailer Released

Posted by admin On June - 30 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Watch the newly released trailer for King of Fighters XII. This is the first King of Fighters title being released on the current console generation using sprites in HD.

Fighting genre fans will recall in the past when arcades were still a viable source of income, fighting games drew the biggest crowds and led to the famed “quarter-on-screen-dibs” line system. I remember watching gamers playing Street Fighter II and noticing a single line of quarters would sit on the lip of the screen and the joysticks.

King of Fighters was a series that used to sit next to Street Fighter II, with a different style of playing. Most gamers who were excellent at Street Fighter had trouble converting to the different attack structure in King of Fighters. With the newest installment coming July 20, 2009, it appears that the online fighting community will be welcoming another member back into the fold.

It’s actually hard to really convey how the game will be when viewing just the trailer.  While the game looks solid, without actual hands-on time, the controls could actually be a broken shell of what used to make fighting games great. The HD graphics appear smooth in motion, but will they actually maintain that framerate when the game is being played online? Online multiplayer is an important aspect of the fighting genre now, but latency can kill the success of a title, if the lag is not taken care of.

Check out the trailer below:

Lionhead’s Project Natal demo was fake?

Posted by admin On June - 6 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Spong: "Remember at about 1:55 in the Lionhead video of Project Natal, Peter Molyneux (now creative director at Microsoft Game Studios) points out "This wasn’t acted"? If you don’t, the video is below. Well, maybe that particular moment of goggle throwing wasn’t.

What’s interesting, however, is that Peter also points out (1:58) that "Everybody, every single person, that has experienced this reaches down (to catch the goggles that Milo throws)". Sure, this demo featuring uncanny Milo was obviously run hundreds of times with various staff members before being rolled out in front of the E3 crowds. That said, then, we can’t be expected to believe that this is the first time that ‘Claire’ stood in front of the virtual lad. Something rankled…

Fast forward to 2:36 on the video, where Claire (or Clare) plays with the water. The reflection of Clare on screen shows her arms in roughly the correct positions in respect to real Clare. The water seems to be moving based in her hand movements. However, keep watching to the point (2:37) where she appears to make a rippled appear on the left-hand side of the screen. Real Clare’s arms are almost crossed in front of her. ‘Reflected’ Clare’s arms are spread out. Even more startling is the fact that (see the screenshot) the ripple begins before Clare begins her gesture."

ZTGD Review: Burn Zombie Burn!

Posted by admin On April - 6 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Catastrophe writes: Burn, Zombie, Burn! brings a fun gimmick to some old school game-play. Pandering to the shmup and zombie crowds, there is enough genuinely good game to win a following. Beyond torching the undead, however, there isn’t anything truly remarkable in the title. Despite the varying modes and simulated goals, the underlying objectives don’t change, which manages to make zombie fires downright pedestrian.
