Blur Encourages You to Tweet and Drive

Posted by admin On February - 24 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

It has been a while since we heard from the good folks over at Bizarre Creations.  After parting ways with Microsoft back in 2007, the former Project Gotham Racing team has been quietly at work on a new racing franchise for their new publisher, Activision.  Slated for a release in always so specific window of  “Spring 2010″, Blur is another arcade-y take on the racing genre.

With that in mind, what is a traditional “no-no” when it comes to driving in real life?  Using your phone certainly pops to the forefront of my mind.  Fortunately for us, it looks like Blur will be doing all the work for us, enabling automatic tweeting of numerous in-game events.

Unique to Blur, players will now be able to customize the text message from within the game as they share a plethora of game details.  Players can choose to Tweet about race victories, how many fans they’ve just earned, cars they’ve unlocked, leaderboard ranks, send challenges to friends and much more.  Basically, if you see it in game and want to tell someone about it, we’ve got a Tweet for that. — Ben Ward, Bizarre Creations Social Media Manager

Here is an example of what you can expect to see once you have linked the game to your Twitter account:

After the lukewarm reception of Twitter notifications appearing in Uncharted 2, it will be interesting to see how this will be handled by another developer.  It is suffice to say that I personally believe that this will once again be another failed attempt to integrate social networking into games.   The twitterverse and blogosphere is already clogged enough with bullshit that I don’t want to read, so why contribute to the delinquency of others?

Sorry Bizarre, but I am not on-board with this one. However, if you could get started on the “Beerbuzz driving course correction” feature that I have been begging for over the last five years, then I might be a bit more interested…

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Beta ships with Splinter Cell Conviction, Releases Holiday 2010

Posted by admin On February - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

It’s been a long wait for Ghost Recon fans but Tom Clancy fanatics are entitled to a special treat should they pick up Sam Fisher’s newest outing this April. While game details remain sparse in the press release below (No screenshots Ubisoft? Really?) we do know that Ubisoft Paris is behind this one again. And much like the Halo: Reach beta on the ODST disc, future soldiers will have to wait until summer when the multiplayer  demo finally goes live. Strangely, PS3 owners are getting the shaft on this one with the beta only available for members of Xbox Live. The question remains whether gamers will have tired of the whole “Modern Soldier Model” after a year with MW2 and the next Medal of Honor installment.

LONDON – February 9, 2010 – Today Ubisoft announced that Tom Clancy™’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier™ is in development at Ubisoft’s Paris studio and is scheduled to be released worldwide Holiday 2010.

Created by the award-winning team behind Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter® and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter® 2, the game will feature cutting-edge technology, prototype high-tech weaponry, and state-of-the-art single-player and multiplayer modes. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will go beyond the core Ghost Recon franchise and deliver a fresh gameplay experience, with an unparalleled level of quality that will excite long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Ubisoft is offering gamers a chance to be the first to play Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’s Multiplayer Beta this summer 2010. This exclusive beta invitation will be available for a limited time to customers who purchase Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction™ for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, which releases on 16 April 2010.
