Obsidian Entertainment’s espionage RPG Alpha Protocol was set for release on October 6, and as far as we know it still is, but new release dates now listed on GameStop and Amazon.ca have thrown the game’s launch into doubt. As Kotaku reports, GameStop now has it listed for a June 1 release next year, and Amazon.ca for June 30.
Sega, the game’s publisher, hasn’t made any statements about a delay, so for now this remains an unconfirmed rumor. But this wouldn’t be the first time Alpha Protocol suffers a delay (it was originally planned for release back in February), and it’s worth noting this comes not long after a leaked document on Sega’s press site included critical comments of the game from a Sony product evaluator, who said it “felt barely RPG” and was “too challenging.”
Obsidian quickly responded to this leak, with marketing manager Mathew Rorie posting a message on the game’s official forum (via Shacknews), saying, “We’re not really sure how much this gentleman played of Alpha Protocol, or what his ideas of an RPG are. Suffice to say, the game is 100 percent an RPG; we don’t really make any other kind of game.”
