Release of the Week: Dark Void (360, PS3, PC)

Posted by admin On January - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Gamers everywhere can’t wait to enter a Sci-Fi universe and do battle against an evil robot army. Just in case you can’t wait for Mass Effect 2 later this month, Dark Void hits store shelves to help satisfy your cravings. At first glance, Dark Void looks like a generic space marine shooter. Look closer though, and you will see that Dark Void is instead a generic space marine shooter… with jetpacks!

Players will be taking control of Will, a cargo pilot who is making a special delivery to the Bermuda Triangle. As with all planes and boats that get lost in the Bermuda Triangle, Will finds himself in a nation inhabited with evil robots. Luckily, he happens to be transporting a super secret jetpack which he can dawn to do battle in air with those evil bots.

If you want a Science Fiction classic with memorable characters, a riveting story and exciting tactical combat then I would hold off a week for Mass Effect 2. If you are into cheap thrills in a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket or only own a PS3,  then Dark Void will help make your week pass by a bit quicker.

Gamespot – Dragon Age Origins Review – PS3 9.0

Posted by admin On November - 3 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

When was the last time you felt totally lost in a fantasy gameworld? When was the last time you played a game with such a well-crafted and enjoyable story that you knew you’d remember it for a long, long time? Dragon Age: Origins is that kind of game, so rich and involving that you are powerless to resist its wiles and whims, so touching and triumphant that your mind and heart will be moved. In the fictional land of Ferelden, you meet memorable characters and fight for a cause you believe in, and it’s this backdrop that makes developer BioWare’s newest role-playing game so extraordinary. Dragon Age is more than a well-crafted story, however: It’s a lengthy, intricate, and thoroughly entertaining adventure that’s easy to fall in love with.

Top 10 Games That Need Movie Treatments

Posted by admin On August - 29 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Koku Gamer writes: "The great thing about games is that they offer us memorable characters; characters that seem all the more real given the level of interaction the player has with them. It is because of this that adapting popular game franchises to the big screen seems like a no-brainer. A way to expand upon the franchise, while making your mascot even more likable through his/her portrayal by an actor in a visual medium. The truth, thus far, has been far from ideal. The perfect balance between fan service and good movie making has yet to be reached. More often than not (much more often), film treatments of games fall short. For what reason is anyone’s guess. But there are always those games looking to break the mold, looking to defy expectation. Dozens of franchises seem ripe for the picking, all equally capable of smashing the convention that has for so long held true in the world of game-to-film transition. The ones that follow are some of the most ideal candidates, whether for their subject matter, characters, or plain old scope, as well as who I think should play the title character. Enjoy."

Gaming’s Most Impractical Characters

Posted by admin On July - 24 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

TheGameReviews writes: "From Indiana’s legendary fedora to Bender’s shiny metal ass, character design defines our most memorable characters. While movies may require real actors step into the character’s shoes, video games have the distinct advantage of building their heroes from scratch. While this allows for artistically liberal creations, such as the bizarre and angular denizens of The World Ends With You’s Shibuya, some games cross the line of artistic expression and plunge straight into the face-palming realm of absurdity. This list focuses on these characters, the men and women that couldn’t exist in the real world. While this list could be populated entirely by women wearing impossibly little clothing, we at TGR enjoy a challenge, so we’re only seeking designs, and specifically outfits, that would be thoroughly impractical if the character were real. Please enjoy our analysis of gaming’s unfeasible side."
