G4tv.com: According to Microsoft, the first games released for Xbox 360 add-on Natal will be anything but "Core." At a press event and Natal demo last night in Europe, Erin Hofto, Xbox 360 product manager showed off a tech demo for the system and said, "What you see here is just the beginning, this game is about 12 months old, but we do see the first titles for being very similar in design: fun, simple and family orientated."
Rob Enderle debates whether it was ever worth it for Microsoft to build the Xbox 360.
I’m having an ongoing debate with a number of folks on whether Microsoft should have ever made the Xbox. I’m arguing against it, and the best argument so far for the Xbox can be found here where there are links to all of the posts so far. What started all of this hullabaloo was a snarky comment I made on Twitter after seeing a chart that showcased that the vast majority of Microsoft’s profit came from Windows and that the Xbox wasn’t contributing much at all to the bottom line.

In what conspiracy theorists may one day dub a Microsoft plot, retailers nationwide are in extremely short supply of Sony Playstations and Nintendo Wiis. According to an anonymous source (you know how these retailers hate for their employees to talk about things), many stores in one company have only received a single shipment of Wiis in since the week before Christmas – some of which consisted of only three consoles. Sony has issued a statement regarding the shortage in a Joystiq interview with Patrick Seybold, Sony’s senior director of communications.
The strong demand carrying through the holidays was evident and early in the month we [knew] there was going to be limited supply of the PS3 at retail in January. We’re working closely with the retail channel to meet this demand, but expect tight supply for the coming months.
According to the numbers from the past year, Sony had a stellar year and their shortage is understandable. Nintendo, however, had a weaker year than years past, which does nothing to explain why no one can find any Wii consoles, Wii-Motes, or Wii Fit packages. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Xbox 360 is still going strong, though one does wonder how many of the 360 sales figures are from people repurchasing a system to replace a broken one.
