Splinter Cell Conviction

If you’re eagerly anticipating a big event in mid-April, you’re either an IRS employee or a Splinter Cell fan. And if you can’t wait to try out Splinter Cell Conviction when it comes out April 13, you can take a crack at it this Thursday, March 18, when the demo is set to hit Xbox Live. Kotaku reports that the demo includes two stages from the game, but steers clear of plot spoilers. That is, plot spoilers besides “Sam Fisher kills bad people.”

If you need further convincing to dedicate some hard drive space for the demo, check out our hands-on preview. It covers the first few levels, along with some of the new multiplayer modes. “Playing different modes of Conviction for 90 minutes makes the game look like a damn good package overall,” wrote Thierry Nguyen. Here’s hoping the demo is a damn good package too.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Beta ships with Splinter Cell Conviction, Releases Holiday 2010

Posted by admin On February - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

It’s been a long wait for Ghost Recon fans but Tom Clancy fanatics are entitled to a special treat should they pick up Sam Fisher’s newest outing this April. While game details remain sparse in the press release below (No screenshots Ubisoft? Really?) we do know that Ubisoft Paris is behind this one again. And much like the Halo: Reach beta on the ODST disc, future soldiers will have to wait until summer when the multiplayer  demo finally goes live. Strangely, PS3 owners are getting the shaft on this one with the beta only available for members of Xbox Live. The question remains whether gamers will have tired of the whole “Modern Soldier Model” after a year with MW2 and the next Medal of Honor installment.

LONDON – February 9, 2010 – Today Ubisoft announced that Tom Clancy™’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier™ is in development at Ubisoft’s Paris studio and is scheduled to be released worldwide Holiday 2010.

Created by the award-winning team behind Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter® and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter® 2, the game will feature cutting-edge technology, prototype high-tech weaponry, and state-of-the-art single-player and multiplayer modes. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will go beyond the core Ghost Recon franchise and deliver a fresh gameplay experience, with an unparalleled level of quality that will excite long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Ubisoft is offering gamers a chance to be the first to play Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’s Multiplayer Beta this summer 2010. This exclusive beta invitation will be available for a limited time to customers who purchase Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction™ for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, which releases on 16 April 2010.

The top five annoying trends in videogames

The Downloadable Content. Good idea. But often the content appears only a few days after release. This raises the question whether the developers really couldn’t implement it into the game. More annoying trends: Open World, Realism, Loveless Multiplayer-Modes and more.

Capcom Announce Yet More Ass-Kicking For 2010

With Super Street Fighter 4 and Lost Planet due next year you would think that Capcom would be resting on their laurels and contemplating the possibility of Resident Evil 6.  This is not the case. Capcom have announced the release of the next crop of their classic back catalogue to get an HD remix for PSN and Xbox Live Arcade.

Final Fight: Double Impact is a double pack  including Final Fight and Magic Sword, both rendered in Capcom’s proprietary engine to give them an high-definition edge. Fans looking for a more authentic arcade experience can choose to play them in either classic or arcade cabinet modes.

Both games include multiplayer modes allowing you to brawl your way across Metro City or stick it to the dark lord Drokmar with your buddies and Capcom’s now ubiqutous leaderboards so you can flaunt your high scores.

Final Fight: Double Impact will be available on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN in April of next year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Review

Posted by admin On November - 19 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

First-person shooters on Wii are easy to ignore, especially (and ironically) when they’re Call of Duty games. Sure, World at War was a well-done port, but the World War II-themed COD games always had spin-offs or ports on the “lesser” systems, so it wasn’t a big deal in the long run. Modern Warfare was different, since it was only meant for the “big boy” consoles, with no other versions in sight. And besides, it was about modern warfare, not older conflicts that could be artistically interpreted however many ways. But now, riding in the wake of the Modern Warfare 2 launch, comes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition, the first “non-HD” version of the original Modern Warfare.

Basically, you can take everything from our 2007 review of the original version and apply it to Reflex, and that’s pretty dang respectable. The woefully uncredited team at Treyarch deserves some props for faithfully — not necessarily exactly — bringing over Modern Warfare’s single-player campaign and multiplayer modes. No, of course it doesn’t look quite as good, and runs at less than 60 frames per second, but it’s a necessary evil that’s not worth harping on. The intense missions are still there, as are the characters, the plot, the great sound design, and of course, the gunplay. So what if there are a few less plumes of smoke on the battlefield?

Capcom have release yet more teasing screens of their sumptuous update to Street Fighter IV.

Super Street Fighter IV will feature a whole bunch of cool stuff that was missing from SFIV first time around. this includes three new playable characters, T-Hawk, DeeJay and Juri, a completely new character and the first to ever use the Tae Kwon Do fighting style.

It will also support a much more comprehensive selection of online multiplayer features including Team Battle which supports up to eight players fighing in either 2 on 2, 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 bouts. There is also an Endless Battle mode which seeks to emulate the old-school arcade, winner stays on experiences. In addition to these new modes players can also watch recorded fights and talk over their wins and losses on the new Replay Channel. There will also be a downloadable Tournament Mode to be released after launch.

In addition to the new multiplayer modes the difficulty levels have been rebalanced to make the game more playable for newbies and veterans alike and all the playable characters come unlocked straight out of the box.

Capcom have also brought back the classic bonus rounds so now you can practice busting heads but smashing barrels or a police car for extra points.
