Trent Reznor Unlikely to be Involved with Doom 4

Posted by admin On June - 3 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Trent Reznor

We don’t know a whole lot about Doom 4 at the moment, but there’s one thing we’re relatively sure of: Nine Inch Nails frontman and longtime id Software audio collaborator Trent Reznor will probably sit this one out.

Reznor revealed on the official Tumblr site for his new band How to Destroy Angels that there’s currently nothing in the works between him and the folks at id Software. “I haven’t been contacted by them and find it unlikely that I would have time at this point,” he wrote.

The independent musician teamed with id to provide the music for the original Quake back in 1996. He also worked as an audio engineer on Doom 3, though none of Reznor’s contributions made the game’s final cut.

Why does game storytelling have such low standards?

Posted by admin On April - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Gamecritics writes: "Storytelling is an art form in and of itself, just like painting or music. And of all the art forms that comprise video games, story is often at the low end on the totem of importance. This is perfectly acceptable to me-games are more often than not held up by mechanical and/or aesthetic components, leaving the story as icing on the cake. However, this does not mean that any game that even attempts to have a deep and/or dynamic story can automatically be heralded as storytelling mastery. To do so belittles the craft. You could have a fantastic cake that gets topped with shit, and while the cake itself might be a perfectly fine baked good, you still need to contend with the fact that there is shit on your cake."

PAX East 2010: Video Game Orchestra

Posted by admin On April - 5 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

DualShockers writes: "I was looking through some of the stuff I caught on my camera and discovered a pretty awesome piece of footage. It’s the Video Game Orchestra playing a Mario medley. Unfortunately, I missed the first few seconds and the final few seconds of the piece, but it is still something I wanted to share with you all.

They also played a medley for Yoshi, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, the Final Fantasy VII Battle theme, a very metal version of Castlevania music, and Snake Eater. I think that’s all of them. I wrote down all the pieces they played on my phone, but my phone crashed on me, because of how awesome the list was."

IGN: ZombieSmash Review

Posted by admin On March - 27 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

ZombieSmash isn’t just loaded with fun, there are quite a few chuckles in here, too. Flattening zombies with rocks and blasting them with your wrecking balls results in goofy explosions of cartoon gore. As the month of frights continues, the action gets more frantic. Your finger will be all over that screen. Couple a fun game with great visuals and music, and you have a download that’s easy to recommend.

Groovin Blocks Out Now on PSN

Posted by admin On March - 24 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Playstation blog says:

In Groovin’ Blocks, you play directly with the beat of the music. See those bright moving columns on the side? You will notice that as the song plays, they come towards the board where all of your blocks are falling. Once they hit the side, they will “flash” and disappear. That flashing is where you want to hit down on the SIXAXIS controller and settle your blocks. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, now you add on that match-3 component and you have yourself something you’ll want to play all day long. But that’s not all! We give you bonuses and a player vs player mode where those bonuses become weapons against your opponent. When you feel like kissing and making up for the destruction you’ve caused, we also give you a co-op mode that really sets the game apart. I dare you to cooperate and survive long enough to finish the song.

IGN: The Hero Review

Posted by admin On March - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The Hero is a great action game at an unbeatable $1.99 price. Had it been any longer, The Hero would have risked growing dull, but its breezily-paced 15 stages are just right. The Hero is loaded with humor, superb art and music (wear headphones to really appreciate the audio), and is buoyed by accessible controls that you’ll "get" within just a few minutes. This is a worthy download for iPhone gamers needing an action fix.

Uncharted 2 Is Now Sony’s Fastest Selling First Party Title For PlayStation

Posted by admin On February - 21 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

When something is great, say it’s great. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is indeed great. Sometimes the best in entertainment, whether it be music, movies, or gaming, are never experienced by the masses. They slip in and out and the ones who had the privilege to enjoy the genius deem themselves as blessed.

Uncharted 2 is an exception. It is one of the most amazing and memorable gaming experiences ever forged, and it’s being enjoyed by millions, over 3.5 million actually.

ResumePlay Review: Mass Effect 2 (360)

Posted by admin On February - 7 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Resumeplay writes, "This game succeeds in every way it was expected to, and many more. The best part about the series continues in this installment: you can live it how you want to. You can play it 10 times and experience any number of complex changes. This game is so good, it makes you feel like you need to try everything ("dance" option at the clubs, "watch" an alien stripper). There’s something about walking into Afterlife (a club on Omega) and feeling the music vibrate through the TV, and having the option to go to the bartender for a drink be the last thing on your mind that shows how impressive Bioware’s feat really is."

Games Are Charitable – XBLA Roundup: Chime

Posted by admin On February - 4 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Chime is the first offering from charitable organization OneBigGame. Unlike most puzzlers, the object of the game is to fill up the board rather than clear it. You do this by connecting the pieces together to form solid blocks. A rhythm wave sweeps across the board in time with the music, and as that beam crosses over your connected blocks, it marks them as claimed space which you can then place blocks on top of  if you have some spare unclaimed space mixed in with your claimed space. It’s difficult to explain, but hard to put down.

Acclaimed artists Philip Glass, Moby, Markus Schulz, Paul Hartnoll of Orbital and Fred Deakin of Lemon Jelly have donated their music tracks pro bono, and OneBigGame will donate net proceeds to charity partners Save the Children and Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Chime is available now for 400 Microsoft Points, and with the profits going to charity, it’s hard to turn this one down.

The Last Story, Yet Another Final Fantasy?

Posted by admin On February - 1 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

GamingUnion.net writes, "Just yesterday, Nintendo announced a new game to the world titled The Last Story. An RPG developed by Hironobu Sakaguchi and his studio, Mistwalker. Sakaguchi is mostly known for creating the popular Final Fantasy franchise but has since moved on to create other games, most notably for Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

The Last Story is his latest foray into the home console arena since the Lost Odyssey. What’s most intriguing is the striking resemblance it bears to Final Fantasy, from the title to its logo and even the music. Will Mistwalker create yet another Final Fantasy or will they go on to create something new and refreshing?"
