It’s that time of year again. Brett Favre has said that he might retire yet again, sports nerds everywhere are studying for their fantasy football leagues, and another Madden game is hitting store shelves everywhere. If you aren’t an annual Madden gamer, you still might care this year. Every year EA focuses on some aspect [...]

DoubleJump, Version 2.5, Episode 8: Red Dead Ramblings

Posted by admin On July - 23 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

On this episode Scott and James talk about a recent (hopefully not probable) rumor about Modern Warfare. We also discuss more about Red Dead Redemption, Deathspank, and Singularity and it’s similarity to Bioshock. Also I try to figure out why I can’t get Persona out of my mind and why I will be picking it up on the PSP.

Birth By Sleep Release Date Announced

Posted by admin On May - 17 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

September 7, 2010. That’s when you can pick up the new Kingdom Hearts game, named Birth By Sleep. After the disappointing and oddly named DS version, we’re understandably a bit wary, but this one is coming to your PSP, both via UMD and PSN download. That might be worth the price of admission right there.

The story concerns three characters of appropriately androgynous appearance, Ventus (latin for wind), Aqua and Terra, as they travel to unexplored Disney-themed worlds. Here’s us, hoping that the developers populate these worlds with more than just a couple of disney characters and empty level environments. Seriously. We mean it. Like every other movie trailer, we really want to trust that the best stuff is yet to come, not just crammed into the 30 seconds or so of the launch trailer.

Enjoy the screenshots and launch trailer, and let us know what you think.

Echoes PSP Mini Now Only A Dollar

Posted by admin On May - 12 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Echoes Mini, for PSP (and PSP Go, of course, but who talks about that thing anymore?), has just been price dropped to the glorious under a buck arena. For $.99 you can play this once $2.99 title both on your pSP OR your PS3, which is one of the killer features of the PSP Minis scene. Say the developers at Halfbrick,

“Players control Charlie, a girl transported to a dream world while studying art, [who] finds herself in a series of bizarre and surreal levels. To complete each level, the player must collect crystals and avoid the deadly Echoes which spawn and follow the player’s previous movements. Gameplay quickly becomes fast-paced strategic action as more complex paths are taken and the Echoes begin to close in!”

New Yakuza Game Named, Dated

Posted by admin On May - 12 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Kurohyo

The newest project from Toshihiro Nagoshi, Sega stalwart and director of the company’s Yakuza, has a real name now.

Nagoshi revealed in Japanese game magazines this week that his latest project, a PSP game unofficially titled “Project K” until now, is now named Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinshou, which we’ll loosely translate as “Black Leopard: A New Yakuza Chapter.” The game also has an official release date now — September 22 in Japan — and Sega’s announced that gamers who preorder the title over there will receive a copy of “Young Kamutai Magazine,” a fictional travel guide to the game’s equally fictional fictional setting of Kamurocho.

As discussed earlier, Kurohyou is a new action game that borrows Yakuza’s setting to tell a story about Japan’s modern underground street punks. Kengo Kora, a Japanese actor who’s appeared in lots of films over there, will provide the voice of hero Ryuya Ukyo.
