E3 2010: Namco Bandai Shows Off Enslaved’s Take on the Hoverboard

Namco Bandai Associate Producer Ryan Adza was on hand to demonstrate the “The Cloud,” Monkey’s secret mode of transportation in Enslaved. Much like the famous board from Back to the Future II, it allows Monkey to move at high speeds by hovering just above the ground.

When we last saw the new action puzzler Enslaved less than a month ago, we learned about Monkey’s relationship with his companion Trip and how it affects the gameplay. Trip is essentially the brains of the group while Monkey serves as the brawn — Trip primarily hacks computers or performing tasks like guiding the pair through minefields.

This Day in History: Nintendo Takes Stake in Rare

On this day in 1995, Nintendo purchased a 25 percent share in British developer Rare Ltd, beginning a relationship that would produce award-winning titles like GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark and Banjo & Kazooie.

Rare’s Donkey Kong Country, released the previous Christmas, was the fastest-selling videogame in history at that point, having pushed over 7 million units in under half a year. Nintendo’s 25 percent acquisition (which eventually grew to 49 percent) ensured that the game would see three sequels.
