Does a game’s platform influence its EDGE score?

Posted by admin On March - 14 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

TrendAnalyst blog writes: Every time EDGE magazine reviews a Playstation 3 exclusive, they are accused of bias by PS3 supporters, who are then mocked as fanboys who aren’t satisfied with anything other than perfect scores for their beloved exclusives. EDGE are known to be harsh graders, and some respect them for using the full 1-10 scale instead of using 7-10 scale like the mainstream gaming press. The counter argument is that EDGE reviews every game harshly and it’s pointed out that for every PS3 exclusive that gets low scores like Heavy Rain, there is an equivalent 360 exclusive.

To investigate whether EDGE is just harsh overall, or if it truly judges and scores games based on their platform, blogger TrendAnalyst made a comparison chart of the top 30 games from each platform, as well as the top 30 multiplatform games.

Yakuza 4 scores 37/40 in Famitsu

Posted by admin On March - 10 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

SCRAWL: "The latest Famitsu is out and Yakuza 4 has racked in an impressive review score. The weekly Japanese magazine has given the fourth numbered iteration of the action game a thirty-seven out of forty. Review scores were broken down into a 9, 10, 10, and 8. That’s pretty damn good, if you ask me."

A review for the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII allegedly coming from Team Xbox has lowered it’s Metacritic score dramatically but is it real and why isn’t it anywhere on their actual website?

Deadly Premonition is blatantly better than Heavy Rain

Posted by admin On February - 28 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Yesterday Destructoid reviewed Deadly Premonition and gave it a score of 10. This comes just weeks after Destructoid reviewed Heavy Rain and gave it a score of 7. Obviously, this means one thing. We, at Destructoid, love the Xbox 360 and want to have sex with it. This conclusion can be drawn thanks to logic, which is a thing the Internet uses to make decisions based on ideas a thirteen-year-old had.

Some people (idiots) believe that I hate Heavy Rain because it is new and unique. The truth of the matter is that these people are gullible f***wits who believe that Heavy Rain is unique just because Sony told them that’s what it was. People who can think for themselves and actually possess some intellectual standards have realized that the game is not really new at all.

EDGE thinks gamers are stupid

Posted by admin On February - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Recently Edge Magazine reviewed a PS3 exclusive called Heavy Rain. Unsurprisingly it scored a very mediocre 7/10. To a lot of people a 7/10 isn’t bad it’s actually quite good. That may have been true 5 years ago, but by today’s standards a game will more often than not fail if it were to receive an average review score of 7. So then, now that we’ve got that little debate out of the way here is just a few examples of how edge magazine has proven time and time again that they are a unreliable source of correct information when it comes to ps3 exclusives.

ResumePlay Review: Bioshock 2 (360)

Posted by admin On February - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Resumeplay writes, "For a game with such high expectations, Bioshock 2 does not disappoint. Marin implemented the same gameplay mechanics that made the original a best-selling game of the year, holding true to original Bioshock creative director Ken Levine’s idea of what Rapture as a city and an experiment should entail. They also supplemented that idea with fresh ideas and an engrossing story that is unlike any other single game on the market. Music plays an integral role in the franchise, and this sequel is no exception. The score is expertly crafted and frighteningly in-tune with the gameplay and story experiences."

Why The Hell Do We Care About Gamerscore?

Posted by admin On February - 12 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

DualShockers writes: "Seriously though, why the hell do I even care about my gamer score? I really started thinking about this when I started collecting all the items in Brütal Legend. Using the internet and a handy map I had found on Achievement Hunter I set off on my quest. Over the course of a few hours, I managed to clear off nearly half of the collectibles when I realized I wasn’t having any fun. It honestly felt like I was somewhere in another realm of existence turned on a shop-vac and sucked all of the enjoyment out of the game…"

DLC Set to Debut for Dark Void Next Week

Posted by admin On February - 7 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Dark Void’s first piece of downloadable content comes in the form of the ever present third person shooter ‘horde mode.’ Pitting players against groups of enemies across ten levels of increasing difficulty seems par for the course, but Dark Void’s flying mechanic should help differentiate it from the loads of other games that follow this formula. Coming on February 10th on the Xbox 360 and the 11th on the PS3, the new DLC will be available for 5 bucks on both platforms.

While some gamers would be excited about this new DLC, I am actually more hyped about getting the soundtrack from the game. Being that the soundtrack was composed by Bear McCreary, the composer behind the soundtrack of Battlestar Galactica, my expectations are rather high for this release. Along with over 80 minutes of the fully orchestrated score from the game, the 8 bit remix of the Theme from Dark Void, featured in Dark Void Zero (The Downloadable neo-retro game for the Nintendo DSi), is also included. Look for the soundtrack to hit store shelves and digital download services on February 9th.

IGN: PS3 Perspective: ME2 is Better than Uncharted

Posted by admin On February - 4 - 2010 3 COMMENTS

It spiraled out of control faster than anyone thought it would. About two weeks ago, Erik Brudvig posted IGN’s review of Mass Effect 2, and in 14 article comments, the fight was on.

"How in the hell does mass effect 2 get a higher score than uncharted 2, I read the game is not perfectly polished, sound cuts out, characters get stuck in the environment and full game crashes occur," wrote IGN user 360andps3ownerJerk. "And you 360 biased idiots give it a better score than U.C2" "PS3 = PWND," Asian Avatar wrote later.

Rather than let Xbox 360 owners have a moment to read and reflect about how awesome their console exclusive was, some PS3-skewed fans high on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves decided to take the conversation to the most annoying depths of Internet hell
