GameZone: Metro 2033 Review

Posted by admin On March - 16 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

GameZone’s Dakota Grabowski writes,

"So do you have what it takes to survive the perilous world of Metro 2033? The single-player affair is worthy of every FPS fanatics’ time since the 4A Games and THQ were able to put forth a wonderful tale that deserved telling. The world is engrossing as it invites players for multiple trips with the sheer amount of detail 4A Games spent implementing into the environments. Metro 2033 is as pure as they come in the genre and I gladly welcome any sequel that may reach fruition."

Posted by admin On March - 13 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Ubisoft has announced that it will bring the critically acclaimed Might & Magic Clash of Heroes to the PlayStation Network from Sony and Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.  Developed by Capybara Games, the creators of Might & Magic Clash of Heroes for the Nintendo DS system, Might and Magic Clash of Heroes for Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 and PlayStation Network will give players the opportunity to enjoy the remarkable gameplay but now in high definition (HD).

“We’re very excited to bring Might & Magic Clash of Heroes to Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 and PlayStation Network,” said Senior Producer, Romain de Waubert de Genlis.  “Not only have we had the chance to adapt all of our graphics to High-Definition, but we’ve also had the opportunity to improve the game even further, both in single-player battles and in the main campaign. We took many of the community’s recurring wishes into consideration, allowing players to match their strategic skills and taking full advantage of the online capabilities of Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 and PlayStation Network.”

Might and Magic Clash of Heroes for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network will take advantage of the next-gen consoles’ capabilities to increase its visual appeal and enrich the multiplayer experience. With a unique mix of RPG and an exceptional puzzle battle system, this upcoming release will give Might & Magic fans something to look forward to this Summer 2010.

Is Take Two double dipping with BioShock 2 DLC?

Posted by admin On March - 12 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

When fans first heard word that they were going to get an opportunity to return to Rapture, the masses rejoiced. Not only was BioShock 2 the sequel to one of the biggest surprise hits of this console generation, but it also took a stab at bringing the franchise’s trademark flare to the multiplayer front. Many gamers, myself included, asked why the developers would try to sully what was such an overwhelmingly strong single player experience, by attempting to transfer that magic to a multiplayer arena.

Those that cried foul about the multiplayer initially seem to actually have a reason to complain now, as the recently released Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack DLC may be noting more than a glorified unlock code.

The pack, which costs 400 Microsoft Points (about £3.40) weighs in at 108kb on Xbox 360, and just 24kb on PC, both of which are so small it would seem to suggest it’s simply an unlock key to open content that already exists on the game disc.  — Via CVG.com

So this raises the question, do you think it is okay for publishers to re-charge you for material that is already on your game disc?  I am going to have to say that this is incredibly wrong, but we are curious what you all think.  Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Splinter Cell: Conviction to last ‘30-35 hours’ altogether – VGD

Posted by admin On March - 12 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Remember when Ubisoft’s Patrick Redding told you that Splinter Cell: Conviction would last 12-16 hours? Well, he was lying. Or rather, he was only referring to the single player campaign and co-op modes.

Factor in Deniable Ops, the competitive multiplayer mode, and according to Creative Director Maxime Beland the figure is twice or thrice Redding’s estimate.

Scrap Metal Review

Posted by admin On March - 11 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Banging things into other things has been a major form of entertainment since the pilot episode of “Caveman Jackass” back in 20,000 B.C. There’s just something endlessly appealing about controlled destruction. So, if you’re stupefied by slaughter, dumbfounded by demolition, and enthralled by evisceration, you’re sure to be tickled by Slick Entertainment’s new XBLA title, Scrap Metal.

Sitting somewhere between a straight-up arcade action title and a lightweight racing sim, Scrap Metal has drawn comparisons to Rare’s R.C. Pro-Am — but the similarity to that old classic is mostly skin deep. Really, Scrap Metal’s casual-game veneer hides a robust (if somewhat overly sensitive) physics engine, more levels than a Byzantine ziggurat, and a grip of imaginative set pieces. Both multiplayer (Scrap Metal offers local and online) and single-player are challenging without being too intense, offer plenty of tweaking without being overly detailed, and feature charmingly over-the-top graphics.

Ubisoft’s DRM Servers Break, no Assassin’s Creed For You

Posted by admin On March - 8 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

NG writes:

"The Assassin’s Creed 2 forums are slowly filling up with angry Europeans unable to play their single player game. The cause? Ubisoft’s have-to-be-online-to-play DRM servers are having a bad Sunday. Within a week of the game coming out in Europe and with only two days until its North America release, the server issues could hardly have come at a worse time. Yet somehow, this all seems so predictable."

Even More Portal 2 Details Surface

Posted by admin On March - 8 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Portal

Portal 2’s existence was only just recently confirmed a few days ago, but details out of Game Informer’s cover story continue to make their way online. Now the entire cover story itself has evidently been scanned, and VG247 pulled a few of the major details.

Portal 2 will, reportedly, take place hundreds of years after the first Portal (pictured), resulting in the Aperture Science labs looking like “a jungle.” Despite this significant time shift, Portal 2 will still somehow once again star Chell, the first game’s protagonist, as the playable character in the single-player game. GlaDOS returns as well, with the (Portal 1 spoiler warning) personality cores you seemingly destroyed at the end of the first game having taken over different areas of the lab.

Meanwhile, as previously revealed, the co-op campaign will be a stand-alone story…that apparently stars two bi-pedal robots. Gameplay-wise, physics will play a bigger role in the puzzles, with one example being using a portal to suck air from a vent in one area into another. There will also be “reflection cubes” that’ll be used for laser-redirection puzzles. Game Informer’s cover story also confirms that Portal 2 will indeed be a full-fledged game, with Valve comparatively calling Portal 1 a “test bed.”

Sony Announces SOCOM 4

Posted by admin On March - 4 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

SOCOM 4

Sony has officially announced its “secret sequel,” and as it turns out, it’s a proper follow-up to the beloved SOCOM series: SOCOM 4. The game is being developed by Zipper Interactive, and it’s due out this fall. Many assumed MAG was the developer’s next step in military action, but apparently they plan to keep the two running concurrently. The blog promises to continue to support MAG after SOCOM 4 launches.

The plot revolves around a military coup in a South Asian country. Players take control of a five-man squad to stop him in the single-player campaign. IGN reports that the 12-hour mission features motion-captured characters in the directorial style of Uncharted 2. All weapons and supplies will be either given at the start of the game, or found inside the missions, to replicate the feeling of searching for supplies in a combat scenario. Of course, multiplayer is back as well, promising 32-person multiplayer with new Special Forces units. Other than that, details are sparse, but we’re sure to see more in the coming months.
