Sony adds more SKU’s and a color change

Sony says that it has no intention of reimbursing retailers if they offer fat PS3 users partial refunds because of the removal of the Install Other OS function.

Last week, the first PS3 user successfully secured a partial refund from Amazon UK as compensation for the removal of the ability to run Linux on the console.

The punter quoted European law in order to persuade the online retailer that the goods he had bought in good faith were no longer fit for purpose because of the enforcement of firmware update 3.21, which meant that users who chose to keep the Other OS functionality would lose the ability to play the latest games or connect to the PlayStation Network.

When the PS3 launched back in 2006, many a journalist and naysayers alike proclaimed the doom of Sony’s black behemoth. They said including Blu-ray as part of the PS3’s package didn’t make much sense and that it would only raise the price of an already expensive console.

But guess who’s laughing now? Ironically, one of Sony’s main selling point for PS3 right now is that its Blu-ray compatibility.

Sand Dollar’s filing today is for the CECH-2101A ‘Computer Entertainment System.’ Label pics for the device confirm that this is indeed the Sony PS3, while label placement pics show a device that is the same size and shape as the PS3 Slim.

Another device, called the CECH-2101B is also identified in Sand Dollar’s filing. The only difference between these two devices is the hard drive size.

Sony launched the PS3-exclusive, Heavy Rain in the UK yesterday, with a surprise guest, Lindsay Lohan.

Recently a new patent by a SONY employee was published, it seems it is Sony’s response for Geohot’s latest PS3 hack.
