Today marks a sad day as the original Xbox Live service shuts down later on this evening.  This spectacular service began seven years ago and has spawned a new definition of multiplayer gaming on consoles today.

One of the biggest games played on Xbox Live remains Halo 2.  Bungie has decided to send off Halo 2 players in style.  They are sending you off with a bit of a surprise for Halo Reach.

Urk from Bungie said:

Actually, after talking to The Wolf it does look like there will be a little something sweet for anyone who played some Halo 2 over Xbox LIVE, assuming the gt they use in Reach is the same account.

Be sure you do your part and play one last round of Halo 2 for old times sake.  We fully plan on it.

The first Halo was being developed for the personal computer (Mac to be precise) before it jumped ship onto the Xbox. Halo 2 followed a similar suit and was tagged as being one of the first games to be available for Windows Vista. Halo 3 was rumored to fall in the footsteps along with its predecessors and make an appearance onto the platform, however it never did.

This, however, might just be subject to change after you have a look at "Matt Waggle" who served as an object artist for Bungie Studios during the project. His duties included working on Halo 3 which was being developed for the Xbox 360 and PC at that point in time.

In that screenshot comparison Videogameszone checked the differences between the PS3 and Xbox 360 version BioShock 2. Hint: Click on "Screenshot in HD" to view them in original size.

PS Uni writes: "We can also reveal here at PlayStation University that there’s also sections of code in the Xbox 360 version of the game (within the ini file) that reference the PS3."

Gears of War protagonists Marcus and Dom are appearing in the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet 2. Gears of War is developed by American studio Epic, while Lost Planet is from Japan’s Capcom. How did this crossover happen?

Kotaku Japan (via Google Translate) is reporting that Marcus and Dom from Gears of War are appearing in the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet 2.

CC: Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hudson has revealed that the Mass Effect trilogy will see out the Xbox 360, and the third instalment will not arrive on the next Xbox.

Did you realize that the Xbox 360 is now four-years-old? I sure didn’t until recently, and that got me to wondering just when might we start seeing the next generation of gaming consoles roll out.
